Frequently asked questions
What is the best yoga timer app for teachers?
A good teaching timer must speak so your hands stay free, be editable for your students, and work without internet. AsanaGuru does all three with multilingual cues, an editable Surya Namaskar sequence, and complete offline operation.
How does the universal yoga counter work?
Choose a target count (10, 20, 50, 100 or any custom number) and the gap between strokes from 0.5 to 3 seconds. The app speaks each number aloud through your device's built-in voice, shows a large digital count with a progress ring, and plays a completion chime. Optional vibration marks each beat for eyes-closed practice.
Can I change the Surya Namaskar pose order and hold times?
Yes. Every one of the twelve default poses can be reordered, renamed, skipped or given its own hold time between 5 and 60 seconds. You can also add custom poses and save the result as a named profile.
Which pranayama techniques are included?
Box breathing (4-4-4-4), the 4-7-8 relaxing breath, Nadi Shodhana alternate-nostril cueing, Bhramari, and a fully custom ratio. Each of the four phases — inhale, hold, exhale, hold — can be switched off or set anywhere from 1 to 30 seconds.
Does the yoga timer work offline?
Yes. AsanaGuru is a Progressive Web App. After the first load it runs from your device, and all sounds are generated with the Web Audio API rather than downloaded, so nothing needs a connection.
Is my practice data sent anywhere?
Practice tools work entirely on-device: settings, sequences and session state live in your browser's local storage, and you can export them to JSON or YAML at any time. Signing in with Google is optional and only syncs the features that need an account — scheduler tasks, workout flows, challenges and streaks.
Do I need an account to use AsanaGuru?
No. The counter, Surya Namaskar sequencer, pranayama timer, meditation timer and step counter all run without signing in. A free Google sign-in adds cross-device sync, the wellness scheduler, workout flows and challenges.
Can AsanaGuru count my daily steps?
Yes. The step counter uses your phone's motion sensor as a pedometer when permission is granted, and always offers manual +1, +10, +50, +100 and +500 tap buttons. Set any daily goal from 500 to 50,000 steps and review a seven-day history chart.
Can the app count silently or only every fifth repetition?
Yes. The counter's announcement style can speak every count, every fifth or tenth count, every N counts, play a beep only, or stay completely silent while the large display keeps the number visible.
How do I install it on iPhone or Android?
On Android, open the app in Chrome and choose Install app from the browser menu. On iPhone or iPad, open it in Safari, tap the Share button and choose Add to Home Screen. It then launches full screen with its own icon.
Can I use a Hindi or Indian-English voice?
Yes. The voice selector lists every speech voice installed on your device, including en-IN and hi-IN where available, and lets you adjust rate, pitch and volume. The interface itself can also be switched between English, Hindi and Tamil.
Does the screen stay on during practice?
When your browser supports the Screen Wake Lock API, AsanaGuru keeps the display awake while a timer is running so the count stays visible across the room.
